Rev. Dr. Michael L. Henderson Sr. and First Lady Rev. Twanna Henderson founded New Beginnings Community Church on October 12, 1999 at the Albemarle Road Recreation Center located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The church began as a Tuesday evening Bible study group with ten other members. Under the faithful and powerful teaching of Pastor Henderson, the church has grown to over several thousand members and is now one church with three locations.

 

Highlights of Events Over The Years

2000-2001

  • January 2000—New Beginnings began worshipping alongside the congregation of New Hope Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.
  • April 2000—On Easter Sunday, the congregation began their own worship service, utilizing the New Hope sanctuary with only one musician to support the praise and worship.  
  • October 2000—The 1st anniversary celebration included a special service preached by Dr. Richard Allen Farmer, and established a formal affiliation with the Baptist General Conference-Mideast District.
  • May 2001—1st Annual Women’s Retreat in Asheville, North Carolina
  • June 2001—1st Annual Singles’ Conference
  • July 2001—1st Leadership Conference and 1st Marriage Conference
  • Fall 2001—The church moved into their own location with their 150-member congregation at Lawyers Square Plaza, Mint Hill, NC.

2002-2004

  • February 2002—Held 1st worship service in the newly renovated Lawyers Square Plaza facility
  • April 2003—On Easter Sunday, the congregation transitioned to two worship services.
  • June 2003 —The church acquired an additional 4,000 square feet which they called the Lawyers Square Annex. It was used for youth church, training, and special events.
  • June 2004—The Lord gave Pastor Henderson a vision to acquire land in east Charlotte, which led to the purchase of the land on Stillwell Road in Matthews, North Carolina.

2005-2007

  • February 2005—The church closed on the land that would become the permanent home of New Beginnings Community Church.
  • October 2005—Groundbreaking ceremony for the new church building.
  • November 2006—Dedication ceremony and opening of the new Worship Center (currently known as the Ministry Center)
  • February 2007—Held 1st revival in the new Worship Center
  • April 2007—On Easter Sunday, the congregation transitioned to three worship services.
  • June 2007—The Sunrise Christian Bookstore opened and various ministries were born.

2008-2010

As God continued to add to the body, the Lord spoke to Pastor Henderson about acquiring the eleven acres adjacent to the church to prepare for phase two of the Main campus.

  • August 2009—Ground breaking ceremony for the Family Life Center- a 30,000 sq. ft. addition that serves as a multipurpose facility for the church and community. The center houses an indoor track, fitness rooms, basketball and volleyball courts, and a dance studio. The business center offers a computer lab, classrooms, meeting rooms, and a state-of-the-art conference room.
  • September 2009—Due to phenomenal growth, the church transitioned to four worship services.
  • November 2010—The Family Life Center officially opened.

2011-2013

  • April 2011—The congregation celebrated the official grand opening of the Family Life Center. Due to the growing congregation, the church began using the new facility to hold three worship services each Sunday.
  • October 2011—New Beginnings Community Church opened a second campus at Sun Valley Middle School, located in Indian Trail, NC in order to serve Indian Trail, Monroe, and the surrounding areas.
  • January 2012 —New Beginnings Community Church rebranded its name to New Beginnings Church.
  • September 2012 —New Beginnings Church became a satellite location for Bethel Seminary School, offering a Masters of Arts in Organizational Leadership program.
  • January 2013 —Grand opening of the Sunrise Learning Academy, a school for children ages 2.5 – 5 years old.
  • August 2013 —First Lady Twanna Henderson published her first book entitled, "Dancing With The Scars".

2014-2017

  • January 2014—MJ’s Special Needs Ministry Launched.
  • March 2014—Compassion Legal Ministry Fair.
  • June 2014—Missions Ministry members traveled to St. Louis to the Dream Center to offer support and to minister to local impoverished residents.
  • August 2014—Backpacks given to over 300 students.
  • September 2014—Three new ministers licensed.
  • October 2014—Pastor Henderson launched his first book entitled, “A Good Man Is Hard To Find”.
  • October 2014—Brand new 2014 Nissan Versa Giveaway during Family & Friends Day 2014.
  • February 2015—Winter Revival with Dr. Jasmin “Jazz” Sculak, Bishop Marvin Sapp, Dr. Jeffrey Johnson.
  • June 2015—Various new ministries launched (Wedding Ministry, First Touch Ministry)
  • July 2015 - Launched Cub Scouts at New Beginnings.
  • October 2016 - New Beginnings Church open the Community Life Center doors to the community. Due to phenomenal growth, the church transitioned to four worship services.
  • September 2016 - Three new ministers licensed.
  • February 2017— My Money Matters Financial Seminar with Financial Columnist and Advisor Michelle Singletary.
  • April 2017—New Beginnings Church opened a third campus at Hickory Ridge Middle School, located in Harrisburg, NC in order to serve Harrisburg, Concord, and the surrounding areas.  We held our annual Fuel for the Soul Plus-Gas and Grocery Card Giveaway.
  • May 2017— IMPACTT Women's Ministry Prayer Breakfast w/250 women in attendance.
  • September 2017— Eleven new ministers licensed. The church launched the Kingdom Kickback Ministry for millennials ages 19-32.
  • November 2017—The church held its first "Thanks in Giving" Thanksgiving meal give away.

2018-2019

  • April 2018— Rev. Twanna received her honorary Doctorate of Divinity. The church held its annual Fuel for the Soul Gas Card Giveaway
  • August 2018— The church celebrated the opening of the New Beginnings Bible Institute
  • September 2018— Six new ministers licensed. The church held its first Twanna T. Henderson Breast Cancer Awareness Race.
  • October 2018—The church held its inaugural Pastors and Leaders Kingdom Conference, where Pastor, Rev. Twanna and the NBC staff coached leaders and ministry teams from across the country on "Becoming a Breakout Church".
  • December 2018—Held the Community Night of Hope with special guest speaker, Willie Moore Jr, to encourage students, parents, and school personnel in the wake of the tragic shooting at Butler High School in Matthews, NC.
  • February 2019—Winter Revival with Dr. Lance Watson, Dr. Jasmin "Jazz" Sculark, and guest psalmist Gaye Arbuckle. Also launched the Resurrection of Hope campaign to build one of two Hope Homes. The first home will be a ministry home for Teenage Pregnant Girls.
  • March 2019—Men's Ministry kicked off The Chop Shop, which is an open forum for men to discuss real issues faced by men in their everyday walk. The 2019 Excellence Awards was held with special entertainment by comedian Akintunde
  • July 2019—The Our Journey of Hope Cancer Care Ministry was launched to come alongside those diagnosed with cancer. Thirteen cancer care ambassadors were commissioned. Also, the Missions Ministry members traveled to the Dominican Republic to offer support and to minister to local impoverished residents.
  • August 2019—The church hosted Sunday's Best Finalist Melvin Crispell for Pastor's birthday celebration.
  • September 2019—Five new ministers licensed.
  • October 2019—20th anniversary of New Beginnings Church. Guest preachers included Bishop Marvin Sapp and Pastor John K. Jenkins. Guest psalmists Anthony Brown and LeAndria Johnson helped to commemorate the occasion
